Being judgmental doesn’t pay…

…especially when it comes to sponsoring. You should NEVER prejudge who you think will or won’t make a great team member!  Just to shed some light on real life scenarios that often occur, I want to share a few of my experiences with you so you’ll know what I mean.

In the world of Home Based Businesses, there are always examples around you to show you what you should and should not do.  After carefully watching and listening in to people’s stories about their sponsoring (recruiting) experiences, I’ve come to observe a lot of interesting things about pre-judging people too far in advance, before they join your business.

First, I’ve seen team members get SUPER excited about someone who they think is going to be the “next big thing”.  They came over from another company and they are going to bring in 50 people from that company and take the area by storm!!  And then, not too long afterwards, they fizzle.  No one joins them and no one came along with them from their previous company.  It becomes blatantly obvious that they’re a dud, and not too long afterwards, like the magician Whodini, they disappear into thin air, with all of their shoulda, coulda, woulda’s trailing behind them.

However, I’ve also seen the total opposite happen.  I’ve seen team members start off very laidback in following up with potential recruits because they didn’t think they were “really going to make it”.  I’ve seen that potential recruit get frustrated at the lack of follow up, join under another person and pass the first person up in sales, recruiting and leadership.

The bottom line is this, “Those you think will, won’t.  And those you think won’t, will!”.  This industry can be very tricky and it’s often challenging to determine who’s going to be a producer versus those that will simply become a number.  Either way, the best thing you can do is talk to practically everyone you know.  From your church, to the parents at your children’s school, family, friends, neighbors, lawyers, post office workers, teachers, doctors, accountants, real estate agents, stay at home moms, and the list goes on and on and on, with people you should share the business with.

Never underestimate someone because of his or her current “income status” or their profession.  Inside each of us is a dream that is lying dormant, and waiting for someone to come and help bring it to life.  You never know whom you can unlock from life’s miseries and struggles, and those whom you can empower by believing in them enough to present them with this amazing opportunity.

The best thing you can do is present them with the opportunity, and let them decide if they want to move forward or not.  Once you open the doors, you have no idea who you’re letting in, and the potential they will have to bring massive success to your organization, while you get the chance to embrace the experience of seeing their lives changed.

Keep Pushing Forward…

I came across this picture over the weekend and it really hit me. I see this happen all the time! People begin a business, tell all their friends and family, have an amazing first month, maybe even first 3 months, and then it happens. They have a slow month, and quit. (insert sad face here)

Another scenario I’ve seen… Person joins business, tells all their friends and family, and none of them can/do make a purchase. Person quits…before they get started!!

So why am I telling you this? I’m telling you because you need to know to not quit! As you can see in the pic, the guy on the bottom is right there.

But he’s in quit mode.

So he never reaches the diamonds. The guy at the top has a ways to go, but he’s going. 

I don’t care what business you start, what you’re promoting, how awesomely awesome the compensation plan is…you will have bad months.

It’s just a fact.

Every business, whether work-from-home or brick & mortar, has bad and slow months. And notice I said months. There will be more than one. But as long as you don’t give up, you’ll make it to where you’re going.

Think about this…

Say you won the lottery and have to get to the office to collect your check. It’s the lottery so it’s not just ‘pocket change’.

You want it. You’re excited about it.

But the office is in a town you’ve never even heard of, and you’ve lived in that state your whole life!

Of course, in today’s age we have GPS capabilities on phones and mapquest on out computers, so for sure, you’ll get there, right??

Most of the time.

In this case, the lottery office is in a new development that hasn’t yet been added.

So you get lost.

You’re frustrated. You feel like you’ve been down every street possible. But you keep riding!

Why??

Because you want what’s at the end of your riding!!

So you keep at it. You stop and ask. You call. You do what you gotta do to get where you gotta go!!

It’s the same in your business. You have to have that same excitement, energy, and desire for success!

Things will go the exact opposite of what you want. But you don’t quit.

You just keep pushing! You never know how close you are to your diamonds.

ScentsyLine Extention: Layers

There’s been an expansion in Scenty’s product line! Not only will your home smell good, but so will your body!

So, let me be honest. I was very iffy when I heard Scentsy would be launching, essentially, a bath & body line. I’m one of those, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ kinda girls. They make a quality product. The scents are absolutely amazing! The buddies are the cutest, ever!

So why does Scentsy need something new?

That’s the thing, they didn’t need it. It was something they wanted, for their customers. I imagine the thought process went something like this: (and this is totally how I imagine it in my head, minus all the real details that go into launching a product)

6 people at a round table.

Person #1: We have amazing scents.

Person #2: People are crazy over these amazing scents & want to smell them everywhere.

Person #3: What do we have that can go anywhere?

Person #4 : We have travel tins, buddies, scent circles, room spray, & fragrance foam.

Person #5: Ok. We have awesome products that go anywhere, but how about bringing them closer to the customer?

Person #6: (with a light bulb above his/her head): Your body and clothes doesn’t get any closer!

And there you have it! Well, not technically, but hopefully you get the point. They added it for the customers. Heidi and Orville could have easily put that money elsewhere, including a family vacation if they chose, but they chose to put it back into their company, to make yet another, awesome product.

Welcome to my Place!

Here’s the deal…I started my Scentsy business in September 2011, and immediately started a blog. My plan was to basically document my Scentsy journey, and throw in the random post about the random things that go through my mind.  I have another blog, so I knew how to do it, so I did it. Got it up, posted my first post (see date on post below), and nothing. I simply did nothing. I didn’t even log back in. Don’t ask why. I don’t have a reason.

So…let’s play catch up.

In July 2011, a friend (now sponsor and friend) asked if I wanted some samples. I said sure, got them, but had no warmer. I needed one, but at the time, I was only making part time income and simply couldn’t afford it. She asked if I wanted to have a party to earn one, or more, and I, of course, jumped at that. Long story short, I had a party a few weeks later, earned just over $70 in free items, some half-priced things, and was ready to sign up. So, I did.

It’s been an awesome ride! Scentsy had brought many things and people into my life that would never have been here without it. My first 2-3 months were a bit slow…and I didn’t get it. My party had gone so well, but not anymore. I watched a few training videos and talked to my sponsor. She said 3 words, “Have a party, girl!” Well, that’s 4. So I did…and then it happened. By business took off and it’s been an amazing ride ever since. I’m booking parties every month, making sales, adding to my team, AND making sure every teammate  gets off to a great start!

I am in love with this product, in love with this company, and in love with my team! I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

This story is surely to be continued…
